Michael Bennett is following the steps of Kaepernick and continuing the anthem protest. But apparently, Bennett has much bigger plans for goal than just sitting during the National Anthem.
After signing a $30 million dollar contract Bennet still feels that he is not treated equally because of the color of his skin, and feels the need to protest. But somehow sitting alone at the bench isn’t enough, so he wants all the white players to join him in his protest.
“It would take a white player to really get things changed,” Bennett stated Wednesday on ESPN’s SC6, “because when somebody from the other side understands and they step up and they speak up about it … it would change the whole conversation. Because when you bring somebody who doesn’t have to be a part of [the] conversation making himself vulnerable in front of it, I think when that happens, things will really take a jump.”
But Bennett’s plans don’t end here, he also wants the children to join him saying “Instead of just inspiring them to be athletes, we can inspire them to be change makers.”
But the troubling thing is that the NFL not only doesn’t condemn these actions but also support them. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stated:
“It’s one of those things where we have to understand that there are people who have different viewpoints…It’s something that I think everybody wants. The national anthem is a special moment for me. It’s a point of pride. That is a really important moment but we also have to understand the other side – that people do have rights, and we want to respect those.”
Unfortunately, many black people in America have been convinced by leaders like Barack Obama and Al Shaprton that the police officers or other Americans hate the blacks, so they can continue the to rise in political prominence and cause a race war.
